India’s largest low-cost carrier, IndiGo Airlines has started operating direct flights to Maldives from Mumbai, Kochi and Bengaluru. The airline will operate daily non-stop flights between Male-Kochi, five weekly services from Mumbai and two weekly flights from Bengaluru.
To mark and commemorate the introduction of cheap flights to Maldives from India by IndiGo, the company flew an Airbus A320 plane from Cochin to Velana international airport of Maldives. The plane with a capacity of 130 seats carried a total of 50 people on the inaugural flight to Maldives.
The passengers on this first IndiGo flight to Maldives were given a warm welcome by the locals with a Boduberu cultural dance performance.
“GoAir” Airlines, also based in India, started operating flights to Maldives last month, providing a further connection between the India and Maldives.
